neuer re defined the GK position. his physical and technical abilities are ahead of the others, to date. you can watch buffon, casillas, zoff, maier and all the rest and see the same level. they are good but not special.

Pumpido of Argentina may not have been amongst the best but in my opion his low trajectory kicks revolutionised ball distribution for GK's.

Lev Yashins record speaks for itself and is simply phenomanal. He never played with a club that is considered amongst the elite in world football yet he managed to keep close to 500 clean sheets in 812 career matches. Add to that 150 penalty saves and a Euro title with the USSR, then one can only conclude that Lev was truly the greatest GK ever!! He played before my time and i've had the pleasure of watching many great GK'since but none better and more consistant than Gigi Buffon. Buffon has the skill, technique and temperament which stands him above the rest in my 35+ years watching football.

Gyula Grocics - Hungarian Golden Team of the 1950's - Inventor of the sweeper-keeper. How did a man that developed a style of play that is very prevalent today and a great shot stopper not get into the top ten? Was he forgotten? Easily amongst the world's best and worthy of a spot.

must be an english list. Banks as Number 2, very funny. And Shilton top ten is a joke. I am no friend of italian football, but I am watching world football since 50 years and for me it is clear that Buffon is No 1. He was incredible. Neuer is missing on this list. And Mayer was certainly better than Banks or Shilton. Casillas is overrated.

Everyone says Neuer, Cech and De Gea. No one can outclass these goalkeepers. Inker Casillas should be lower but Lev Yashin should always be number one no matter what. Do your research before commenting.
